This 1970's house is being extended and enlarged as well as incorporating a new garage block and pool house.
Special views to the south-west have been preserved and functionality improved by replacing an existing extension with a new kitchen/dining with master bedroom suite over.
By remodelling the west side of the cottage we created a new sun room overlooking the garden with an open plan dining and kitchen area behind.
'Shangri-la' was built in the 1930's by a local builder for his own family. We extensively updated the property and incorporated a 3-floor stairwell in a new art deco style entrance hall. We made full use of the roof space and designed new dormers for front and rear, thus changing a tight 4 bedroom house into a six bedroom home.
All that remained of the existing cottage here was the walls of the middle third. The right-hand third is new timber frame on two floors and the left-hand third was a single-storey extension that we changed into two stories and put a new roof over the whole house. The front single-storey sun room is an open plan, south facing, kitchen/dining area and entrance hall.
This building was a magnificent barn that we converted to six dwellings, two of which are on the very large size. the complete development was for four new houses in addition and the key here was to afford each dwelling views over the countryside to the south.
